2009 Music Oracle

2009 Music Oracle In April last year I went to the Coachella Music Festival in Palm Desert for my 30th birthday. Met a bunch of cool folk, who dragged me across the polo field to hear a band I had never heard of, Vampire Weekend.

I kept in touch with these folk and they invited me to their secret music sharing group. As it happens, many of them are in the “industry” and the most super duper music lovers you’ll meet. They get lots of hip new shit before it hits the razzle dazzle. And give it to me.

(People who want to rant about piracy and illegal downloads. Look! Look over there….)

Months before acts begin to appear as "Album of the Week" on my local indie-station, I’ve had Chairlift, Chad Van Gaalen, Deerhunter, Flying Lotus, Man Man, High Places on my own high rotation duke box.

So as this little group is my musical oracle, here I offer a few bands I think are standing on a cliff ready to hang glide into your ears.

Three locals.

1. Sherlock's Daughter. Sexxy young front-woman with sexy red guitar (that she can actually play).

2. Sister Jane. Psych-rock and hott. From the Mountains. They played at the Paisley Palace just before Christmas and rocked it.

3. Wifey. Because I want to be a wifey one day.

Three from OS.

1. Tickley Feather. Weird and wispy. Like Miranda July. Kinda.

2. Grouper. They're not really from Poland.

3. Sun Kil Moon. Because I can never get enough indie/folk into my ears.

Respect Ryzz
I predict that Britney will make #1 at some point in the year. Also, U2 will disband.
