They say that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery for an artist, however those people have quite clearly never been on the receiving end of such 'flattery.'
So when does it become a blatant attempt for one artist to ride on another artists coattails? Herein lies the perfect example.
Unless you've been busy vacationing in Mars over the last three months, then you'd be excused for not knowing about the triumphant return of Tonite Only. The partnership of two of Australia's hottest producers, Simon (GT) Lewicki and Sam La More.
Their track 'We Run The Nite' has been keeping a smile on my face and those of club kids around the nation for the last two months. It's also been keeping the number one slot on the Aria charts sufficiently warm for the past six weeks.
It's safe to say it's the first real contender for dancefloor track of the year (and it's only May).
So amazing is their comeback and rise with 'We Run The Nite', that some pretty faced commercially aimed DJ by the name of Havana Brown. Heard of her? Yeah, thought that might be the case. I guess she's best known for short opening sets for Chris Brown et al.
Anyway, she must have heard the track and seen the dollar signs, cause after only a few weeks, she decided to try to confuse people by releasing her own single...also titled 'We Run The Night'.....ummmm, what the....??? Is she serious? Does she really hope their fans are silly enough to accidentally buy the wrong version and put her on the charts? What on earth is she attempting to do here? To make things so much worse, when you listen to her single (I send your ears my condolences now in advance), it sounds like she's changed the chorus to add 'we run the night', but it doesn't sit properly or make any sense with the feel of the song and whatever love dramatics she's whining on about throughout the rest...
Seriously, who on earth does that?
There's no confusing who runs the nite and who'll be picking herself up from a dirty dancefloor corner at the end of said night...some people really do stoop to sad levels
