Since 1992 Victor Rodriguez has been putting acrylic to canvas and creating hyper-realistic paintings that look just like photographs. Mexico City-born, now Brooklyn-based artist has exhibited his works in solo and group exhibitions from Madrid to Milan, Lima to Kyoto and back again.
His artworks are created with great precision, but don't feel too clinical or distant. Instead the accuracy only makes his subjects more real, more human and, perhaps, more vulnerable. Some situations seem ordinary enough – applying lipstick, drinking water – but some are extraordinary; crumpled photographs, eyes in diamonds, and women covered in butterflies that look as real as the ladies themselves. Incredible.
