If you don't want to look at dinosaur/lizard/human mutants having sex while being cheered on by bunnies and chickens yelling "Find the hidden hamburgers!" then Lisa Hanawalt's art might not be for you. (Evidently, awesome isn't for you either. Sorry, mate!)
We are really digging on Brooklyn-based Hanawalt's trippy, crass and sometimes grotesque style. Her artworks appear crudely drawn, but it's clear that it's not entirely effortless. Hanawalt obviously puts a lot of thought into her creations, as demented as those thoughts might be – a collection of animals in inspired hats sounds cutesy and dull, but in reality we're talking about a poodle wearing a Chia Pet pillbox hat. Or a Tarsier monkey wearing a 'colour block morbidity bonnet'. It's all entirely oddball and entirely awesome.
The award-winning artist, cartoonist and illustrator has created work for clients including Vice, The NY Times, Vanity Fair and McSweeney's and is, apparently, really good at mimicking animal sounds.
