Did you know that Californian illustrator Tavis Coburn once played professional soccer for LA Galaxy? Or that he was in a garage band with Vincent Gallo? How about that time he saved San Francisco from a giant Godzilla that could shoot killer bees from its mouth. And the bees could shoot lasers from their mouths. Amazing, no? Unfortunately, it’s not true.
Fact is, Tavis is a pretty chill bro, one that happens to create award-winning illustrations. Melding 1940s comic book style and Russian avant-garde influences, he’s managed to win friends and influence people with his retro illustrations for a minute now. Most recently, the British Academy of Film & Television Arts commissioned him to produce portraits for their 2010 awards. While his take on
Avatar is pretty spectacular, his whole portfolio is basically win.
