LA’s Gallery 1988 has become the public face of contemporary pop art. Dedicated to all things kitsch, retro and cult, it went from hometown favourite to international acclaim with its
I Am 8bit video-game series a few years back. Since then it’s been the go to spot for artwork that people in their 20s and 30s can actually (A) afford and/or (B) appreciate.
And that brings us to the third installment of their
Crazy 4 Cult series. As the name suggest, this one is all about artists re-interpreting their favourite cult movies. In a nutshell, a whole lot of
Donnie Darko,
Heathers,
Wizard of OZ,
Big Lebowski and Kevin Smith stuff. Which is exactly what you’d except from a bunch of dope-smoking-artist-types from LA.
