Crazy for Cult
LA’s Gallery 1988 has become the public face of contemporary pop art. Dedicated to all things kitsch, retro and cult, it went from hometown favourite to international acclaim with its I Am 8bit video-game series a few years back. Since then it’s been the go to spot for artwork that people in their 20s and 30s can actually (A) afford and/or (B) appreciate.

And that brings us to the third installment of their Crazy 4 Cult series. As the name suggest, this one is all about artists re-interpreting their favourite cult movies. In a nutshell, a whole lot of Donnie Darko, Heathers, Wizard of OZ, Big Lebowski and Kevin Smith stuff. Which is exactly what you’d except from a bunch of dope-smoking-artist-types from LA.

The new exhibit opens July 16th and you can pick yourself up some prints at crazy4cult.com.

Donnie Darko is fantastic. But it sorta raises more questions than it answers.

"Donnie Darko" and "sequel" should never have been allowed in the same sentence.
