Her past included skipping school, drinking bottles of Robitussin and eating acid; but since the rebellion was shaken out of her system, Mel Kadel relaxed into herself and now creates artworks that are a little fairytale, a little feminist, and a little storybook. Although Kadel herself describes her works as "mooshy".
Kadel likes using old paper, but because it lacks size, her works are often illustrations on collaged paper which give them an organic and antique appearance. Kadel attended art school in Philadelphia and now lives in a log cabin in Los Angeles with her partner Travis Millard.
