New Zealand-born, now Sydney-based artist Mark Alsweiler has been part of a bunch of group exhibitions in his motherland and Australia and will, no doubt, spread the word even further with his slightly oddball, slightly morbid, entirely gorgeous artworks.

Seemingly taking inspiration from Native American and Central American entities and imagery – apart from the more obvious tipis, and subjects' appearances, there's a strong sense of nature and the spiritual (almost a Day of the Dead influence). His paintings are aesthetically lovely; the colours and composition are immediately pleasing, but there is an underlying tinge of morbidity.
