True story: I spent 20 minutes rewriting this opening sentence, trying to find the perfect way to say Kilian Eng’s work is amazing. In the end I gave up and went with this. Sorry, it’s not much of an intro, but nothing I’m going to write here will do the illustrations justice. Click on the image gallery and have a look for yourself.
You're back? Good. As you probably noticed the guy's work is filled with pop culture influences. You can see traces of Daft Punk, Blade Runner, Tron and retro sci-fi from several miles away. Thing is, none of these individual elements overshadow Kilian’s unique art direction – a sort of retro-futuristic mysticism.
Dude has won plenty of critical acclaim for his work and he currently divides his time between commissioned art pieces in his Swedish studio, a couple of books he’s putting together, his own band, and an animated short –
Marchmounts – about “getting lost in the unknown".
Based on his previous efforts, and the trailer below, the ‘unknown’ is looking pretty rad.
