Jean 'Moebius' Giraud is one of the most influential illustrators of the last century. While he made his fortune with a long running comic strip called Blueberry, his real legacy lies in cyberpunk. Long story short: a series of sci-fi images he produced for France's Heavy Metal magazine in the mid '60s were discovered by a young William Gibson and Ridley Scott. They both decided to bring them to life.

Gibson pretty much invented the internet and 'cyberspace' in his 1984 novel 'Neuromancer'. Scott was behind the 1982 classic, 'Blade Runner'. Between them, they helped launch the whole dystopian, cyberpunk thing into the mainstream.

Anyway, years later someone got Gibson and Scott together for a lunch thing and they were both like, "Oh shit, you were into Moebius as well! I was all about his shit back in the day. We're totally awesome. Let's go get some coke and hookers."

I've paraphrased that. But you get the idea. Here are some of those original illustrations.

Respect fujiko-san
Mobius is among my totally favorite BD artists. The work he did in Jodorowsky's Avant l'Incal is what made me get into BD in the first place! Incredible!
