In the grand scheme of things, the evolution of the umbrella has been pretty stagnant. I mean, the Japanese designed those weird ones that make you look like you're some kind of transparent Glad-Wrap mushroom - buuuuuut, that's pretty much it. The humble yet necessary umbrella has been left in the ozone-melting wake of the technological advancment...UNTIL NOW...MAYBE...
Korean designers Je Sung Park and Woo Jung Kwon have developed a concept for an 'invisible umbrella', a hollow pipe that blows air out of it to create a canopy that acts exactly like an umbrella. You can adjust the pressure of the air flow as well as the length of the pipe, meaning you can carry it around in your handbag/manpurse.
Unfortunately it's only at concept level but we're still excited that the umbrella is moving forward. Plus it's generally pretty cool.
