Ho Ryon Lee has been getting a lot of attention recently with his blurred upskirt action. Sounds a little sleazy when put like that, but Lee's double (sometimes triple) layered images of girls' hip/thigh/waist regions are actually very pretty.
The Seoul-based artist's voyeuristic project walks a very fine line between creepily voyeuristic and flirty. Many subjects of his paintings are entirely at ease – which could imply that they don't know about their Peeping Tom buddy or are aware and comfortable with the viewer – and others are depicted in a way that appears to have them knowingly flirting.
Lee, who has completed a Masters of Fine Arts, creates a real sense of theatrics and movement with the overlapping images. And his use of light makes the collection even more realistic and appealing.
