"As a street artist, Dan Witz lends wit, color, and grace to New York
City. As an oil painter, he seduces outsiders into warm homes and lit
storefronts. Though different from the hoodies and skaters he paints
onto public space, these paintings are a gentle reminder that, once in
a while, everyone needs to come inside."*
His latest street art project
Do Not Enter (a work in progress)
has utilized the existing Do Not Enter street signs within the cities
of NY, East London and Copenhagen. Using mixed media on plastic, Dan
applies his artwork in such a way that it appears that it's always been
there... very clever.
It reminds me of something I tried to do in a similar vein a couple of years
ago with a street sign for a bitch of road in Melbourne (Punt Rd),
swapping the P for another more appropriate letter... but that's another story. Anyway check out Dan's
flickr page and
website for more info.
