In industry terms, American artist and photographer Charlie Rubin is still just a wee little baby. The talented happy-snapper is still very much in his very early 20s, and yet has already shot a shipload of fashion editorials and mixed media with his distinct illustrative touch added.
The New York-based artist specialises in mixed media of the most sublime creed. Charlie pretty much sets to rest the ol' nugget that men can't multi-task: the artist shoots, paints, draws, and produces all of his work himself. The result ends up blurring the line between illustration, art and photography – something a lot of the industry have been indulging in recently – but in a way that is wholly original and unlike a lot we've seen.
The splashed series comprise some of Rubin's most beautiful work, with splatters of a white creamy milky substance (hush your dirty, wandering mind) adding mirage and fantasy to moments of innocent movement. The result is a bit like our personal favourite,
Cass Bird for Sophomore NYC – but with a bit of Nadal thrown in for bonus sexy value.
Other shots look less like beautiful watermarks and more like a fairy has thrown up on a canvas. Editorials such as
Long Nights are just sublime in their use of textured watercolours and acrylic paint. The result has a childlike yet three-dimensional twist that is just heavenly.
