If Freud were still alive, he'd have a lot to say to Connecticut-based artist Julia Randall. Oral fixation. Something about her mother or penis envy or some such pseudo-psychology. But Freud is dead and Randall makes amazing images that we can all enjoy without feeling guilty about how emotionally inept we are. Rapture!
Randall's amazingly realistic illustrations are delicate and beautifully constructed – they are at once a little strange and entirely romantic. From glistening spit bubbles and shiny tongues to imaginary fetish objects (the wig/tongue head-gear contraption is particularly fascinating) and birds with human mouths instead of heads, Randall's artworks are intriguing and provocative.
You might be a little creeped out, but you'll like it.
