At a first glance, Sam Jinks' amazing sculptural pieces could easily be confused – both in subject and realism – with British-based Australian artist Ron Mueck's work.

While there's similarity in the level of detail, Jinks' work introduces creative, and often dark, subtle tweaks to reality. Pieced together using silicon paint and human hair, Jinks has captured gestures and expressions that leave your mind racing with questions. It's almost as if there was once an entire life behind these frozen forms. Technically brilliant. Amazing.

Check out some samples of Jinks' work to the right of this post and for more visit www.samjinks.com.

I wonder if Sam ever takes a step back from the work while having a coffee break, stares at it and says out loud "Woah, that shit's pretty creepy right there."?

Has anyone done a background check on this fellow? Does he reside in an area where people occasionally go missing? Who knows - the police might be interested at what's in the shadows his closet.

Brilliant! Super Realism rocks my nuggets. Kinda like Duane Hanson, but more confronting.

Sooo beautful! I love how he adds a layer of creative in there, that's always something I thought Ron Mueck should give a go (beyond just playing with proportion), it's a wasted opportunity not to. Brilliant work Mr Sam Jinks! - Jake OXOXOX

From the text and his site it seems these are handmade by the artist, but a lot of this kind of thing are moulded by technicians in labs, not sculpted by the artists' themselves. Incredible though... very arresting. But does it always have to be 'ugly' and shocking... can it be beautiful and still be art?
