Los Angeles-based, Santa Monica-born artist Allison Cortson has a swag of exhibitions, a Bachelor of Arts, a Masters in Art, and a bunch of awards under her belt. Above her belt are very dexterous hands and a clever mind-tank. Plus some other stuff, probably.
Cortson's paintings often contrast their subjects using bold, blocky colours and lots of detail, while fading out monotone backgrounds. Despite this unrealistic technique, her artworks almost look like photographs. The concepts are simple; from kids lying around in the sun to people doing renovations, but they are all intriguing nonetheless.
