Alison Bickle has created an alter-ego – a woman who is almost the epitome of free spirited – she's almost always nude and frolicking in the wilderness and having a billboard time. Bickle says that this imaginary of herself is similar to who she'd like to emulate; "a strong, fearless hero, engaged in exploration and adventure". There's something beautifully awkward about her protagonist that makes her very believable.
The San Francisco-born, New York-based painter pays homage to traditional portraiture while maintaining her own spin on it – with odd proportions and thoughtful themes.
