Pay your respects to Mr Vernon Courtlandt Johnson

There are very few artists that can claim that their artwork has helped to define an entire subculture and era. Vernan Courtlandt Johnson (VCJ) can easliy stand by that claim as his iconic illustrations shaped and represented one the of the most influential skateboard brands of the 80s, Powell Peralta. Still to this day, his illustrations are out of this world and in terms of illustrative skulls, he's still number one in my book. Mad respect for you VCJ.

Check some samples of his iconic skateboard graphic work below... Mad respect for you Mr VCJ.

So much awesomnessess, so many memoriesess of riding our home made half pipe built out of for sale signs. We would ride then hop off and bang all the loose nails back in, so much pain remembering the bus that ran my PP over...

Defined an entire subculture and still inspires the movement with countless rip offs / homages in design twenty years later!

God what an awesome gallery. How good was 'Animal Chin' and 'Ban this' back in the day? Memory lane much?

True that. 'Ban This' and 'Shackle me not' (H-Street) were spot on. We tried to resurface our backyard half pipe with thin sheet metal. We pretty much all needed stitches within a week. Uuurgh.

one of the other graphics that i think is incredible is teh ghostbusters logo, seriously awesome and so simple. did a quick look around and apparently (according to a guy who was drunk at work and had apparently jsut met the guy) it was designed by a character called richard whyte. could be interesting to see what else he's been up to too.
